Welcome to Workbelt
Hello lovely person. I am so pleased you have made your way to my website.
All the bags, purses and accessories you will find here are designed and handmade by me in Hobart, Tasmania with love.
If I’m honest, I’d love to spend my days just making beautiful things, but there are a lot of additional aspects associated with running a microbusiness. I take my own product photos, I manage my website and social media, I market my products, and I manage the books. It is a big task but I feel very proud of how Workbelt is evolving. I may not have the shiniest marketing or glamorous models, but I put my heart and soul into providing you with a high quality product and service.
Thank you for supporting the slow fashion revolution. Here are some things that are important to me:
I want to provide my customers with the best quality product. This is why I choose to use upholstery leather. It is so much more durable than garment leather. It costs more but it reduces waste and saves money in the long run because it stands the test of time.
Sustainability and Ethical Treatment of Animals:
There are a lot of unsafe and unethical practices out there associated with animal products. This is not ok with me and I will continue to strive for transparency. I wish I could source my leather from Tasmania, but alas, we no longer have a tannery. So I decided to source from a reputable third-generation Australian family owned business who complies with strict environmental and ethical codes. Please find the Environmental Statement of my leather supplier below.
Leather is a by product of the food industry. It is natural; it is recycled; it is durable; and it reduces waste.
The quality and shine in the leathers I use are evidence of happy cows. The skins have unique natural markings that tell their stories (like you and I), but the exceptionally high quality shows no signs of mistreatment. This not only produces a reliable product, but it reduces waste in offcuts.
I focus on simple and practical designs that outlast fast fashion. I live by this principle too...there is something very rewarding about living simply and wanting for little. So when you do treat yourself, it’s extra special.
I am very grateful for your support and business,
